The company is picking a handful of people to take to Haiti for a week in early December.
I have always wanted to be a part of this and hope they choose me. We had to submit a photo like that, and also a brief, 250 word or less essay, which is as follows:
When I was younger, I did not have much. My mother did most everything on her own with income as a waitress. And yet, she still had time to help those who needed it, despite her struggles. She is an inspiration to me and I always wondered what I could do that would make her proud of the boy she raised on her own. This is a wonderful opportunity to give back to those in need. It is clearly something that would also honor the teachings and heart of my hero, my mom. But there is much more to it than that.
I have always admired ‘Habitat For Humanity’ from afar, and always regretted never learning more about it, or a way to be a part of the projects and process. I always used excuses such as my work, my need for attention to my own family. “This is a bad time, THAT is a bad time.”
I am getting older and try to help where I can. But to let this chance pass me by without trying to be involved is not how I’m wired. I hope you agree that for every person in need, there should always be at least two people there to help them stand on steady ground. Should I be chosen, I will give it my entire strength attention. People in need of this kind of help deserve absolutely nothing less.
I hope this is enough for me to be chosen. They may ask for references, so if anyone here has good stuff to say about me, I may be hitting Tumblr people up for a favor.
Man. I really want this!
